From the Founder: Silvy
For a long time, I lived swinging between two extremes: chasing fun and chasing money.
I call them the Escapist Mode (fuelled by distraction, obsessed with fun only) and the Tail-Chaser Mode (fuelled by pressure, obsessed with money only). Both kept me busy, but neither brought true fulfilment.
Then I stumbled upon a book that changed everything: Mastery by Robert Greene. It spoke directly to something I hadn’t realised I was missing: a life of purposeful growth. Not endless hustle. Not shallow thrills. But deep, meaningful progress.
That was the beginning of a new way of living for me. I started observing and learning deeply about people, creativity, and life itself. I began craving growth, not just personally, but in a way that connects, uplifts, and helps others grow, too.
I also started noticing that so many people around me were caught up in the same cycle: seeking constant entertainment, chasing validation, or obsessing over money at any cost. In the process, they’d completely forgotten the treasure they already had within them: their own creativity. Even worse, many were ignoring their own wellbeing and ruining their health just to keep up. They were burning out to fuel a life that didn’t even feel like theirs.
But creativity isn’t something you copy. It’s something you uncover. And the more you dig into it, the more interesting it becomes. The problem is, people often dismiss their own ideas as boring because they’ve been conditioned to believe someone else’s expression is better.
The Northstar Mode
That’s when I discovered what I now call Northstar Mode: a third way of living. It’s a path guided by curiosity, intention, and contribution. A quiet but steady compass pointing towards creative courage, not comparison.
Choosing the Northstar doesn’t mean I’ve abandoned fun or money. It means they no longer sit in the driver’s seat. In this mode, I still value resources and joy, but they don’t control me. I’ve integrated this balance directly into the pages of Creativables.
You’ll find plenty of “fun” in our event highlights and interviews, and “money” in our practical tips for creators. But we approach them differently. We talk about how to enjoy life and manage finances without ruining your baseline. When your baseline is blown (usually by chasing constant “highs”) you inevitably hit a crash. We focus on sustainable joy and practical stability so you can keep creating for the long haul.
And you don’t need to be “naturally creative” or have it all figured out to step into it. Whether you’re an Escapist, a Tail-Chaser, or simply someone feeling that inner nudge for something more, this path is open to you, too.
This is Creativables
From this space, Creativables was born. It’s my monthly digital magazine: a vibrant, visual, and accessible space for stories, ideas, and conversations around creativity.
It’s designed for everyone, including those who have ever thought, “I’m not a creative person.” To that, we simply say: yes, you are.
We feature artists, photographers, cosplayers, musicians, and makers of all kinds. We explore the why and how of creativity, not just the finished work. And we do it all in a friendly, neuro-inclusive format:
- ✅ Bite-sized writing
- ✅ Minimalist layouts
- ✅ Warm words in plain language
Support the Vision
Right now, Creativables is entirely volunteer-driven. It’s my biggest labour of love. But as much as love sustains the spirit, it doesn’t pay for tools, software, hosting, or the many hours it takes to put each issue together.
To keep this project independent and accessible, I have set up two ways for our community to contribute:
- Support Creativables on Ko-fi: click here
- Donate via PayPal: click here
If Creativables has clicked with you, encouraged your creativity, or simply brightened your day, please consider supporting. Whether it’s a one-off tip or a regular contribution, these donations help cover the costs of publishing each month and help grow a community built on curiosity, courage, and creative freedom.
You can also support us by following and engaging with our socials: likes, comments, and shares help more than you know.
And if you’d like our latest issue delivered to your inbox each month, you can subscribe here: https://creativables.com/update-me/
